Expressing Request

For polite request we use could. It is used with the people we don’t know or the ones
who are older than us. It is also used in formal language.

Activity one:

Make a polite request out of these situations
1.     You want to ask the headmaster to leave the school.
2.     You are at post office and you want some stamps.
3.     You want to ask somebody in the streets to show you the way to the cinema.
4.     You want your teacher to repeat what he said

Informal request is expressed using can instead of could. We use it with people who are rather close to us like friends and relatives.

Activity two:

Make a polite request out of these situations
1.     You want your friend to speak slowly
2.     You want your brother to turn off the TV
3.     You are asking your classmate for an extra pen
4.     You want your cousin to lend you his headsets

N.B There other ways of expressing both polite and informal requests
